The right eye has been cut in such a way that when you push down on it, it splits to allow a thumb to be brutally pushed into it. To add to the gore of this effect, the back of the head is removeable and a pot of prop blood would have been attached just behind the eye so when the thumb was removed it was nicely covered in blood. Due to it’s age the ears and the shoulder have begun to split, but the face is still in fantastic condition and is a great piece from the movie. Measures 32cm (12.5”) tall and 39cm (15.5”) wide.

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
Hero Mechanical Bubblegum Machine Arm
Stock # 17945
The mechanical arm of the ‘Three Course Meal’ bubblegum machine seen in the Tim Burton movie adaptation Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This incredible piece can be seen on the tour of the factory when Violet Beauregard, gum chewing champion, just HAS to be the first to have a piece of the ‘Three Course Meal’ gum, regardless of how unstable it is.
The arm is made from polished aluminium, and is composed of several distinct moving parts, operated by cogs and chains. They are activated by releasing a spring loaded mechanism that, with the assistance of gravity, opens up sequentially in an elaborate display to finally produce a single stick of gum. The mechanisms have been tested and with careful set up is a functional prop which sadly does not run as smoothly as it once did in the final stage of operation. To ensure the spring is not stretched from being prepped to work, it comes stored in the fully open position in the original box used to store and transport it on set whilst not part of the enormous machine seen in the movie. The box measures 124cm x36cm x 18cm (50.5” x 14” x7”) and the arm at full extension measures 110cm long.
This truly spectacular piece of engineering was painstaikingly crafted for the movie, and to still be in semi working order is an exceptional bonus.
