Before you learn anything of the character, before a word is spoken, before you even see his face, Indiana Jones uses his bullwhip.

It’s a wonderful moment that opens Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and it’s the crack of the whip that seems to linger in moviegoers memories. During filming Harrison Ford became an expert in the use of this deadly weapon and along with the fedora and pistol it has become the world famous calling card for the character.

This bullwhip came from the personal collection of a senior crew member who worked closely with Harrison Ford on the original three movies. It is 10feet long and skilfully made from 12 plait natural tan kangaroo hide by legendary whip maker David Morgan www.davidmorgan.com who also made the whips for Catwoman in Batman Returns and Antonio Banderas as Zorro.

Morgan originally supplied more than 30 whips to the set of Raiders, the whips varied in length depending on the filming requirements. Some even had metal cables inside for swinging shots. These early whips were made from calf hide as the more flexible kangaroo hide was banned at that time. As Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) were made, Morgan was able to supply the preferred kangaroo hide whips to set. This whip was one of a number used throughout the second and third instalments of Indy’s adventures. David Morgan’s skills have been called on again as Indiana Jones ventures towards The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The whip shows evidence of heavy use during filming including dark markings where it was worn on a belt loop and considerable wear on the handle and cracker. Instantly recognizable to film fans the world over, we are very proud to have this signature Harrison Ford prop in the Prop Store collection.
