This amazing looking vehicle was specially made for and used in the 2003 movie The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, it was the only practical one made for the production. Another version, with a camera mount fixed to the outside, was also created for the close up filming of the actors while inside the car. |
| The car, although fully functional, is sadly not street legal. It was built by a specialist movie car manufacturer from scratch using an adapted Land Rover chassis and a Rover V8 engine. It measures a staggering 22 feet long and is 9 feet wide. The car is detailed with a crackle effect white paint job and is adorned with “alternate Victorian” style silver fittings, featuring a repeating elephant theme as imagined by production designer Carol Spier. The upholstery is beige leather and the whole interior is decorated in the same decorative manner as the elaborate exterior. |
|
Each of the 6 wheels measure a huge 2 feet in diameter and the general profile of the car is so low that a special hydraulic system had to be installed to allow it to be safely unloaded from the custom made trailer. |
| “The Nautilus Car” has already been exhibited at the Essen Motor Show in Germany and also the London Car Show since filming completed in Prague. The car will, according to those who have driven it, reach 80 miles an hour comfortably and handles beautifully. The Propstore team are all anxious to take it for a spin. |
