Gladiator
Commodus & Lucilla's War Chariot Flagpole Crest

An ornate flagpole from Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and Lucilla’s (Connie Nielsen) armoured war chariot used in the Ridley Scott Oscar winning epic Gladiator. This large extravagant decoration adorned the outside the chariot that transports ruler Marcus Aurelius’ descendants to the German front early in the movie supporting their regal standards. It is made from plaster with an internal support and has been sprayed silver to resemble metal. It begins with a narrow point progressing into a large crest with the effect of folded leaves. This top section has a large bolt inside to facilitate the flag pole section that would have sat on top and to join the crest and the point, and has a golden paint effect as well as some green patina to look aged and weathered. It measures 87cm (34.25”) long 32cm (12.5”) wide and is in very good condition with some minor chips to the crest revealing the original white material beneath.
