Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Klingon Bird Of Prey Blocking Model
Stock # 22970
This is a "blocking" model miniature of a Klingon Bird of Prey created for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. The film features a sequence where the BOP crashes into the water, and this model was created for blocking out the shots and creating animatics during pre-production. For the video animatic, the hero model miniature was shot on video, followed by a double exposed lightbulb (ramping up in brightness) to simulate the explosion, which then faded out in to these model pieces rotating towards camera.
The model is scratch-built by the model shop at Industrial Light and Magic. It's made from foam core, cardstock, styrene, and plastic. It was originally manipulated by rods, and the rod mounting points are evident. The main body of the ship is not present since it was used for blocking the explosion shot where the ship separates. The model pieces measure approximately 9" x 2" (23cm x 5cm), 5" x 5" (13cm x 13cm), 7" x 7" (18cm x 18cm), and remain in fair, production distressed condition.
This item comes with a Prop Store Certificate of Authenticity.
