Serpent and the Rainbow, The
Mechanical Snake
Stock # 23235
This is a mechanical snake head from the 1988 Wes Craven film The Serpent and the Rainbow. The snake can be seen in the film as Dennis Alan (Bill Pullman) wakes in the jungle and meets a zombie in a wedding dress. When he gets close, a large snake springs from the zombie’s mouth and latches onto his face.
The mechanical snake is made of foam latex and features a long metal rod on the interior connected to a lever on the handgrip that when manipulated, opens the jaws. The foam latex exterior has been given a scaly texture, making it look startlingly real.
Due to production use and age, the foam on the snake’s hinging head has begun to crack; the mechanics no longer function, leaving the piece in somewhat poor condition. The entire piece measures approximately 42” (107cm) in length with the snake body/head changing between 2” (5cm) and 3” (8cm) in width.
This item comes with a Prop Store Certificate of Authenticity.
