Muslim Soldier's Crescent Motif Shield

A Muslim Soldier's shield used in the 2005 Ridley Scott crusade movie Kingdom of Heaven. Shields of this style can be seen carried by soldiers in Saladin's army throughout the film, and feature the religious crescent design. Crafted from wood and covered in leather across the front and canvass on the back, the oval shaped piece has a black background with white edges and crescent in the centre. There are leather straps and padding on the back fixed on with rivets that are visible from the front, and in general the piece is in good condition with some intentional and production caused distressing. It measures 49cm x 81cm (19.25” x 32”).
