Saladin Army Shield with Arrow Holes

A shield used by a member of Saladin’s army in the Crusade’s action film Kingdom of Heaven. This grey coloured round shield has small rose ‘studs’ around a central point and a leather strap at the back. Similar styles of shields can be seen in the final battle sequence before Balian relinquishes Jerusalem to Saladin. The shield has four ‘arrow holes’ which would have been made in the rubber and arrows placed in the holes for filming to appear as though it had been struck by arrows during battle. Measures 62cm (24.5”) across.
