A Tiger Samurai Warrior Costume worn in Carl Rinsch's 2013 adaptation of the classic Japanese legend, 47 Ronin. In the film, a band of 47 warriors set out to avenge the death and dishonor of their master, Lord Asano (Min Tanaka). Costumes of this style can be seen worn by a large clan of Samurai warriors who arrive with Lord Kira (Tadanobu Asano) in preparation for a duel in honor of Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa).
This costume consists of a faux tiger head helmet, rubber yodare kake neck guard, soft fur dô body armor with attached sode shoulder guards, leather kote arm guards, haidate thigh armor, large black kimono, hakama pants, leather suneate shin guards, and hakama pants. The headdress features a tiger head that is made from dense foam and resin, and is built around a sturdy plastic bicycle helmet. The head of the tiger is made from a faux tiger print fur, which extends down to a pelt of authentic fur (believed to be from a fox) that has been dyed and painted to match the fake tiger fur on the headdress. The dô, sode, and haidate, have been crafted from a faux tiger fabric that has a black leather trim. Both the kote and suneate guards are made from leather and include cords to tighten around wrist and shins. Paired with the fur armor is a black cotton kimono and beige hakama pants.
This costume features minor wear due to production use (see photos), however it remains in otherwise very good worn condition.
