Skull Cowboy (Michael Berryman) Complete Costume
Stock # 22660
The Skull Cowboy's (Michael Berryman) complete costume worn in the 1994 thriller The Crow. The established character from the graphic novels had a full scene as a kind of 'guide', which was sadly cut from the final film, but an unedited scene can still be watched on the Special Edition DVD and he is seen in Prop Store's exclusive Behind the Scenes stills. In one of his scenes he confronts Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) outside the church, telling him he has no business meddling in the affairs of the living and will loose his immortality if he proceeds.
The imposing spectral costume consist of a full body suit covered in yellowing exposed foam rubber bones, rotting muscle, skin and internal organs, and is wearing a ripped and black tattered shirt, cravat and trousers that reveal the decaying body beneath, a leather belt with leather buckle, black leather cowboy boots, faux reptile skin long coat, leather Stetson hat and full face 'skull' rig, the latter two fix together with wires to prevent it slipping.
The hands were created with three layers, a black skintight glove with 'bones' painted on in white, a special effects bone rig which elongated Michael Berryman's fingers to an abnormal length and hooked up with springs and cables to enable the movements to extend to the finger tips, and finally a pair of incredibly distressed black leather fingerless riding gloves which exposed the bones excellently. Sadly the bone hand appliance is no longer rigged up to work, but they are still an excellent and detailed component to the full costume.
The entire ensemble is in a heavily distressed state for use in the movie, however in general the set in excellent condition with a little ageing to the foam rubber body causing it to yellow and crisp but only very slightly. This is an absolutely stunning outfit from the outstanding movie, and although it never reached the final cut can be fully appreciated by both fans of the movie and the graphic novel. Also included are several unused facial appliances that never made it to the final cut, but are still a fascinating addition to the set.
