A set of visual effects teeth and a toothbrush used in Tim Burton’s fantasy comedy Dark Shadows. Cursed by a to be a vampire and buried for two centuries, Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) is released in 1970s America. Can the vampire restore his family to its former glory, or will the evil witch Angelique (Eva Green) doom him to a life of misery and servitude?
These teeth were used for the scenes showing Barnabas’ efforts to acclimatise to 1970s living. In a hilarious scene, Barnabas brushes his fangs in a mirror in the bathroom, with only his toothbrush and the paste showing due to his being a vampire. These teeth would have been shot to appear in the mirror as his reflection.

Made of resin, the teeth are a casting of Johnny Depp’s real teeth. The teeth have been painted green so that they could be removed digitally in post-production, with traces of toothpaste still present from use during filming. The teeth and the toothbrush are fitted with joints and arms to allow them to be suspended and moved without a human hand in shot, with the arms painted in green to they too could be easily removed.

Featuring some minor wear from use and some paint loss, the piece remains in an overall very good production-used condition, with each of the rows of teeth measuring 8cm x 8cm x 4cm (3.25" x 3.25" x 1.75") and the tooth brush measuring 25cm x 2cm x 1.5cm (10" x .75" x .5") with its extension fitted.
