A Liam Neeson 3D scanning head used in the production of Sam Raimi’s Darkman. This piece is constructed from biscuit foam and has been painted white with lines drawn throughout.
A significant piece of film history, this head was used to create one of the earliest 3D scans in the history of cinema. After the lifecast of Neeson was made Richard Hollander of effects studio Video Image Associates drew each line and point and line visible on the head by hand. The head was then mounted on a milling machine where the X, Y, and Z coordinates of Neeson’s face could be saved and modeled in a computer. This head shows some wear from production use but remains in overall good condition.
