This is a wing expansion effects mechanism used in Kevin Smith's 1999 religious satire Dogma. Throughout the film, there are numerous angels, including Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Metatron (Alan Rickman), each of which have wings hidden under their clothes. Yet, at times, they spread their wings to reveal their full glory. This mechanism was one of two made for the production, used for both actors to show the spreading of their wings. The mechanism is made of metal and foam, featuring cable-controlled hinges and pulleys which cause the wings to rise and spread. The mechanism was originally attached to a harness and strapped onto the actor, but has since been mounted on a metal stand for display. The feathers that covered this mechanism during filming were removed after production to be put onto a static display at Kevin Smith's comic store. The display measures about 66" (168cm) tall and 42" (108cm) wide, and the wings measure 28" x 16" (71 x 41cm). This great mechanism is still in good working condition.
