A Gladiator Training Costume and a Wooden Sword from Ridley Scott’s historical epic, Gladiator. When Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russel Crowe) is betrayed by Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) who slaughters the emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) and Maximus' family upon learning that he will not receive the crown. Presumed dead, Maximus returns to Rome as a gladiator in order to seek revenge against the self appointed emperor, Commodus. Costumes of this style are worn by slaves during their training prior to being sent into the arena for battle.
This costume includes a faded blue tunic with a leather belt. The tunic is made from a soft denim-like material that has been production distressed with the fabric fraying along the perimeter. The front and back of the tunic are held together with strips of brown leather material at the shoulder, and includes stitching below the large holes for the arms. The front of the tunic features a red stain from the sequence in which the gladiators are painted with animal blood. Paired with the tunic is a black leather belt that has features three strips bolted around the perimeter that meet at the front with brass colored buckles. Written inside the belt is the size "XL" and "48"."
Included with the costume is a training sword which is made from wood. This sword is modeled after the Roman Gladius and exhibits a short two-sided blade that meets the capulus hilt. The grip features ridges for the fingers and includes a rounded pommel in the shape of a sphere.
This set features minor wear from production use, however it remains in overall very good worn condition.
