A Partial Praetorian Guard Costume from Ridley Scott’s historical Roman epic, Gladiator. In the film, a betrayed Roman general seeks revenge for his murdered family after making his way to Rome as a slave. The Praetorian Guard serve Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the emperor of Rome and can be seen throughout the film.
This costume includes body armor, a prototype helmet, and singulum (belt with armored leather strips below the chest). The prototype helmet has been made from fiberglass features eagles imprinted onto the sides. While the finished helmets bore an eagle crest at the top of the dome, this piece does not have the crest attached and is cut short. Worn around the torso is elegant body armor that is cast in vacuformed plastic and painted to appear metallic. The armor connects at the front with a long leather cord that is threaded through rings that run down the front, while hidden snap buttons lock it in place from behind. Below the armor is a singulum belt with several leather straps that drape freely.
Please note that this costume was custom made and does not include any sizing information. This wardrobe features some wear due to production use, and shows scuffs to the paint (primarily to the helmet), however the costume remains in overall good condition.
