A Helium Soldier's Costume worn in Andrew Stanton's adaptation of the comic series, John Carter. The film follows Confederate Army Captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) on an interplanetary adventure to Mars where he finds himself in the middle of a great war. Costumes of this style can be seen worn by soldiers in the city of Helium under the rule of Tardos Mors (Ciarán Hinds).
This uniform consists of an armored helmet, breastplate with an attached cape, wrist wrap, waist armor, shin guards, and shoes. The costume is constructed from a flexible rubber with leather components, and crafted with elegant alien markings throughout each piece. The helmet features an adjustable visor and has been outfitted with foam padding and an elastic cord for a comfortable fit. Inside the helmet are two strips of tape that read "Morgan" and "Tom Post."
Worn around the upper body is a multi-layered breastplate with attached shoulder guards. Tied to the back pf the upper body armor are two blue capes. Around the waist is a leather belt with three flaps, two of which cover the thighs. The thigh flaps feature numerous metal discs sewn together, creating a protective surface similar to chain-mail. Also included are shin guards that lace in the back with an elastic cord, and a pair of custom made leather shoes that have been decorated with rubber platting.
Due to production use and distressing this costume features some wear and is missing a few metal discs from the waist armor. The reverse side of the metal plating also shows a sticky residue from the plastic backing of the armor. As this costume was custom made, it does not feature any sizing information, however it remains in overall very good worn condition.
