Balian's (Orlando Bloom) Stunt Sword used in Ridley Scott's 2005 historical epic, Kingdom of Heaven. Set during the Crusades, a French blacksmith named Balian of Ibelin travels to Jerusalem to protect the city from the invading forces of Saladin. This style of sword is featured throughout the film as used by Balian, who receives the sword from his father, Godfrey de Ibelin (Liam Neeson).
This sword has been cast from rubber over a metal rod and resembles a European broadsword. Painted to appear metallic, the blade meets a silver colored crossguard with the tips designed to look like gargoyle heads. The guard connects to a rubber handle that is painted to appear wooden, which meets the ornate pommel. The rounded pommel features a red cross in the center and is surrounded by raised lettering.
Stunt swords, such as this piece, are commonly used during stunt sequences in which the actor requires a lighter and safer weapon. They are far less cumbersome than their steel counterparts, and are therefor easier to handle during complex sequences.
Although this stunt sword features wear from production use, including an angled bend in the guard and minor breaks in the blade, it remains in overall very good used condition.
