A Crimson Typhoon Jaeger Pilot Drivesuit from Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 mega monster movie Pacific Rim. In the film, a race of monsters, called ‘Kaiju,’ terrorizes earth, forcing mankind to build a team of massive robots, called ‘Jaegers,’ to battle the monsters and save the world. This impressive piece is a full pilot costume, specifically designed for one of the Luu triplets to wear when copiloting the Chinese Jaeger, Crimson Typhoon. The Drivesuits for the film were initially designed by Kate Hawley, the film’s costume designer, and were built by the noted effects house Legacy Effects. This suit was designed specifically to reflect the character’s Chinese nationality and piloting role, and includes nozzles and gauges where the pilot would connect to the larger workings of the Jaeger.

The driversuit’s armor is based on a fabric body suit with covering urethane armor pieces to create an imposing form. The neck and codpiece are both made of rubber, lending added mobility to those areas of the suit. The back spine piece is also rubber and hides the main zippers that run along the back of the suit. The spandex gloves feature urethane hand covers. The boots are sport sneakers encased in a urethane shell. Some of the armor components are integral to the undersuit, and others (like the chest, were dressed on separately. The entire body is finished with a dark red paint scheme and includes unique details, such as the dragon logo on the chest and the PPDC symbol on both shoulders. The piece also features several production made scratches to show damage sustained from multiple Kaiju attacks. The lights throughout the suit’s armor are no longer connected to a power source.

The removable helmet was also designed specifically for the Luu triplet and his role in piloting Crimson Typhoon. The helmet was designed for a snug fit, and rear sections detach via magnets to facilitate dressing. A small microphone is situated inside the helmet to allow the actors to be heard better during production. The helmet is lined and the integral LED head lights remain function.

The suit is presented on an included custom display mannequin and base. As this item contains electronic components, every effort has been made to describe them accurately; however no guarantee or warranty is made as to functionality, lifespan or safety of those components. It is entirely incumbent on the new owner to satisfy themselves as to their safe use and maintenance. The suit components remain in great condition.
