A costume and sheathed sword worn by The Operative (Chiwetel Ejiofor) in Joss Whedon’s sci-fi adventure, Serenity.

This excellent costume was worn by The Operative in scenes near the end of the film on Mr Universe’s planet where he tries to stop Mal broadcasting the message telling the truth about the Reavers and the Alliance.

The set consists of a pair of black trousers (marked “Hero”, no sizes marked), a black ribbed top (marked “C” for Chiwetel), a pair of black boots (marked “Stunt”, size 9), a set of chest armour constructed from rubber sprayed a dark bronze colour with elasticated back and Velcro sides (marked “Hero” and “#3 OP”) and a wide leather belt that attaches to the armour with metal poppers (marked “Stunt”) with a reinforced section for safety when performing a stunt and a pair of gauntlets to match the armour with leather straps.

Finally, to complete the impressive ensemble, is a long black leather scabbard and shoulder straps made to look as though his memorable sword is sheathed inside, and is in reality empty with the hilt permanently fixed to the end creating the illusion. Some of the chrome paint has begun to flake with age but is otherwise an instantly recognisable costume from the movie in great condition with evidence of use on set.
