A viewfinder used by the film director Val Guest. Originally secured for use on the 1955 Hammer sci-fi adaptation The Quatermass Xperiment, the viewfinder was used extensively throughout his career, including for his work as a guest director on the espionage spoof Casino Royale.
An example of the Model IIIB viewfinder made by the German manufacturer TEWE, the piece has been modified by Guest for use and shows signs of hard use on sets around the world. The piece features rings that can be turned to manipulate the image seen through the optics, with sliding panels within the optics to create the correct look based on aspect ratio and lens size. A data chart is screwed to the body for checking data, while a strip of white cotton tape has been applied to the outside of the zoom ring with written notes by Guest himself to help him achieve the perfect shot.

Featuring significant wear from use, the viewfinder has functioning optics and comes in its original brown leather case. A letter of authenticity written and signed by Guest is also provided, along with copies of photographs showing Guest using the viewfinder. A truly unique piece of cinematic history!
