Signs

Graham Hess’ (Mel Gibson) Bath Robe

Stock # 2622

This robe was used for the scene in which Graham and his daughters sit in the living room with protective aluminium foil hats. Made of soft blue towel material, the bath robe has a sash around the middle and two large pockets at the waist. Labels have been removed from the inside for comfort during wear, and as such is unsized.

Gladiator

Praetorian Cavalry Stunt Sword

Stock # 40421

A Roman sword carried by a Praetorian cavalryman in Ridley Scott’s Academy Award winning epic Gladiator. Betrayed by his Emperor’s son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and sold into slavery, Roman general Maximus (Russell Crowe) finds his calling in the arena as a gladiator. But when a festival of games begins in Commodus’ honour, Maximus returns to Rome with thoughts of revenge for his lost Emperor and family.

This sword and others like it were used by the elite horse-mounted guards of the Roman emperors Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) and Commodus. The Praetorian Guard were under the emperor’s direct command, being ordered by Commodus to execute Maximus in the forests of Germania and later seen in the arena as Commodus fights with Maximus to the death. Such weapons can be seen during the celebration of Maximus' victory in Germania and during the attempted execution of the Roman general under Commodus’ orders.

The gladius is made with an rubber blade and a three-piece wood and resin grip. The sword guard has a band with the text “SPQR” moulded into it while the pommel is a large sphere capped by a floral decoration, counterbalancing the weight of the blade. The blade has had metallic foil applied to help it catch the light during filming. The grip has been painted the traditional regal purple of the Praetorian Guard while the guard and pommel are painted in black.

Well used on the production with wear and tarnishing from use on Germania’s inhospitable battlefields and beyond, the sword remains in overall good condition.

Cliffhanger

Original Production Artwork - Air Transfer

Stock # 40400

A set of production artwork used in the creation of visual effects for the 1993 action-adventure Cliffhanger. Haunted by the loss of a former team member, mountain rescue ranger Gabe Walker (Sylvester Stallone) returns to the Rocky Mountains one last time. Taken on an emergency rescue mission, he soon finds himself dragged into a daring heist. Can his knowledge of the mountains save him and his fellow rangers?

Acquired from the collection of esteemed visual effects co-ordinator Richard Edlund, this artwork was used to storyboard the visual effects sequences as an air-to-air transfer of cases carrying millions of dollars goes horribly wrong, resulting in the destruction of both planes. The set is comprised of eight hand-drawn storyboards, drawn in pencil on tracing paper showing the intense aerial action. In addition, the set contains three images of one of the private jets crashing into the mountains below.

In very good production-used condition, the largest of the artwork measures 35.5cm x 43cm (14“ x 17“).

This item comes with a Prop Store Certificate of Authenticity.
