The spacesuit worn by Tom Sizemore as Doctor Quinn Burchenal in the 2000 movie Red Planet. It was designed by Kym Barrett and is constructed from a pearlescent blue / purple PVC. The colours change in the light and it is also highly reflective for the studio lights. The main chest area is made from vac formed plastic and is decorated with the “mission sponsors” GM, Hughes, Nokia and Toshiba. The sleeve boasts a lenticular Stars and Stripes flag which alters as the costume moves, the other sleeve has IBM and a mission patch reading “Mars 1 – Valles Marineris”. There are some other pipes, wires and functional details added as dressing to make the suit look a little more practical. |
| The centre section is actually a stunt flying harness dyed purple to match the bodysuit, it has loops and pockets for tools and other items required for life on the planet surface, most of which are sadly missing. |
| The helmet is constructed from fibreglass painted in the same colours. It has a distinctive curved yellow plastic visor, the rear section is also clear but has an interlaced honeycomb pattern. It is held to the costume by magnets and swivels beautifully on the articulated neck section. |
| The costume has a series of red lights across the chest and also has white lights that illuminate the inside of helmet. Like most of the costumes in the Prop Store collection it is presented on a custom made mannequin display and put to a themed base, in this case, a hint of the red planet itself. |
