There was no annual Oscar for “best Make-up” until 1981. The incredible make up for The Elephant Man in 1980 perhaps spurred the academy into action. Awards had been given out previously only as special achievements and even then, only two had been issued. In 1981 Rick Baker won for his groundbreaking work on An American Werewolf in London. Baker’s incredible mechanical effects included an in camera werewolf transformation the likes of which had never been seen before. Rick has gone on to win five further Oscars!

One of the most memorable scenes on An American Werewolf in London is the dream sequence. David Naughton’s character, David Kessler is seen at home with his family and they are attacked by a group of four Nazi demons. The mask featured in the Propstore collection is “Warmonger” the creature who appears in the family home and sprays the room with machine gun fire. He is also the demon that attacks and stabs Jenny Agutter when the dream continues.

This incredible creature mask is made from slip latex beautifully painted and finished, the German helmet is made from fibreglass with added holes and scuffs. Initially it appears that all four of the Nazi Demons were going to wear helmets but only Warmonger kept his for filming. The detailed eyes have an opaque centre which allowed the actor to see reasonably well. The mask is in excellent condition. One of the most infamous characters from a timeless horror classic.

Beware the moon! Stick to the roads!
