Moon is the original and stylish movie directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell. It tells the story of Sam Bell and his lonely, 3 year task of overseeing a mining operation on our only satellite. He oversees the automated harvesting of Helium-3 and makes sure it is safely transported back to Earth. Things then get a little strange when another “Sam” appears in the moon base.

This is one of two spacesuits specially made for filming. It was designed by Jane Petrie and constructed by Bill Pearson. The look is simple, sleek and functional. The main body is constructed from a heavy white canvas material detailed with a Velcro fastening pocket to the centre of the chest. A ribbed re-enforcement covers the knee and elbow sections. The backpack, covered in the same material, measures 50 x 35 cm (22 x 15 inches) and has a patch numbered “01”. The helmet is fabricated from fibreglass and is very lightweight inside a white cotton hood keeps our hero snug. There is a bright LED light to aid in Sam’s exploration of the mine area. The right sleeve boasts 2 patches, one a “Lunar Industries” logo and the second featuring the name of the moon base, “Sarang”.The costume is completed with thick gloves and chunky boots.

The costume stands on a custom made themed base featuring a lunar landscape with light-up movie logo. Sam Bell’s spacesuit stands 2 Metres, 80 inches tall. He resides in our gallery in London with a host of other intrepid movie astronauts.
