After the phenomenal success of The Matrix released in 1999, a sequel or as it turned out sequels, were always likely. The Matrix Reloaded followed in 2003 with its companion The Matrix Revolutions completing the trilogy just 6 months later. The reviews for both sequels were mixed but as the standards set by the first movie were so high some level of disappointment was inevitable. Both sequels performed very well at the box office breaking records along the way.

Perhaps the most notable outfit in the second movie was Neo’s clerical style black outfit. Although it seems Keanu Reeves has made a career out of wearing black costumes this one is probably the most memorable. Worn throughout the film this costume is hero and fully labelled throughout for Keanu “number 1” along with scene number references. It came directly from Warner Brothers. The coat has a very distinctive fine checked pattern which also appears on the small cloth covered buttons. The shirt and trousers are an unremarkable plain black and the iconic sunglasses are custom made for production. The ensemble is complete down to shoes and socks.

The costume was designed by Kym Barrett and is presented on a bespoke mannequin in a classic Neo pose. The display features a special frame that allows the skirt of the coat to flare a little just as it does on screen. The display is completed by an amazing base featuring a light up logo and the tumbling code that makes up “The Matrix”.
