Val Kilmer was the choice in 1995 to wear the batsuit in the third instalment of the popular caped crusader franchise, Batman Forever. In an effort to make the series a little more mainstream and a little less dark Warner Brothers decided to replace director Tim Burton with Joel Schumacher and after seeing the way in which the new film was heading star Michael Keaton decided not to reprise his role and Val Kilmer donned the costume.  Tim Burton remained as producer but as Keaton suspected, the whole feel of the series changed.

Costume designer Bob Ringwood was again on board and altered, just slightly, the look of the costume that he created for the first two movies. It is made from a much more durable and flexible rubber material allowing the actor a little more movement. The ongoing complaint from those that portray The Dark Knight is the poor manoeuvrability of the costume and in particular the restriction to the neck. This was improved for Batman Forever but still not ideal. This greater strength and flexibility also means that the costume survived the rigors of filming a lot better, the cowl in the Propstore collection is in excellent condition.

The chest emblem is made from resin, beautifully finished, and neatly set into the front of the cowl. The underside of the cowl has Velcro strips that helped secure it to the shoulder area of the costume.  The nose and eyes of the cowl are strengthened internally with metal supports and the ears also benefit from a solid former. It stands approximately 22 inches from emblem to ear tip.
